X Corp. Takes Action, Bans Over Half a Million Accounts in India
Elon Musk's X Corp. (formerly Twitter) has taken decisive action against accounts violating its platform policies in India, resulting in a ban of over 500,000 accounts. The period of enforcement, as reported by Reuters, spans from January 26 to February 25.
February Account Suspensions: A Breakdown
The crackdown primarily targeted accounts involved in the dissemination of content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. According to reports, a staggering 506,173 accounts were terminated for these offenses. Furthermore, X Corp. suspended 1,982 accounts found to be promoting terrorism.
In total, X Corp. banned 508,155 accounts in India during the specified timeframe. The platform also processed approximately 14,421 complaints filed by Indian users through its established grievance redressal system. Additionally, 41 requests regarding account suspensions were received.
The company stated, "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended. We received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period."
Consistent Enforcement of Platform Policies
This recent action is not an isolated incident. X Corp. has consistently enforced its policies to maintain a safe and secure platform. Between December 26 and January 25, the platform removed approximately 231,215 accounts in India. During the same period, 1,945 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.
