Hetmyer's Last-Ball Six Stuns Pollard, Orcas Achieve Record Chase
Shimron Hetmyer delivered a stunning performance, propelling the Seattle Orcas to a thrilling victory against MI New York in a high-scoring encounter in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. Hetmyer's heroic last-ball six secured a three-wicket win, completing the highest successful run chase in MLC history.
MI New York had earlier set a formidable target of 238, largely thanks to a blistering, unbeaten century from captain Nicholas Pooran (108 off 60 balls) and a rapid 95 from Tajinder Dhillon (35 balls).
Despite the onslaught, the Orcas' bowlers, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers, managed to grab two wickets each.
Seattle's chase began shakily, losing early wickets. However, Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a counter-attack. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed a quickfire 26 off 13 before falling to Rushil Ugarkar.
Then came Hetmyer's spectacular innings.
The left-hander smashed an unbeaten 97 off just 40 deliveries, including 5 fours and 9 sixes, at a remarkable strike rate of 242.50.
With five runs needed off the final ball, Hetmyer faced MI New York captain Kieron Pollard. He executed a superb flick over fine leg for a six, triggering celebrations in the Seattle camp and securing a memorable win.
Hetmyer, named Player of the Match, said, "This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall and I'm still grimacing over the last game where we couldn't cross the line. Today is one of those days, where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible."
