Clarke Urges India: Play Kuldeep Yadav in Edgbaston Test

As India prepares for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, changes to the playing XI are expected following their defeat in the series opener. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has clearly stated his opinion on one change: wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav should definitely play the next match. Speaking on the Beyond23 Podcast, Clarke described including Kuldeep as an "absolute no-brainer."

India's bowlers struggled to make a significant impact at Headingley. While Bumrah was exceptional with his control and skill, the supporting bowlers – Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna – struggled to maintain consistent pressure or take wickets. Clarke believes Kuldeep can address this issue.

“Bowling-wise, I do not want to single out anyone for blame, but India have to play Kuldeep Yadav. He is a genuine wicket-taker and could have made a big difference in the last Test,” Clarke said.

Clarke also noted that India sometimes overemphasizes batting depth, even if it means omitting a frontline spinner. He argued that in English conditions, selecting bowlers capable of taking 20 wickets should be the top priority.

Echoing similar views, former England batter Nick Knight has also supported Kuldeep's inclusion. Knight suggested that England's aggressive batting style could be challenged by Kuldeep's variations, especially if the Edgbaston pitch offers some turn. Knight believes Kuldeep's presence could create pivotal moments if he finds his rhythm.

The team announcement for the second Test is eagerly anticipated, and the calls for Kuldeep's inclusion are growing louder.
