Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as a future star of Indian cricket, has openly discussed the challenges that have hampered his career trajectory. In a candid interview, the 25-year-old batsman admitted to making poor decisions and losing sight of his priorities, which ultimately impacted his performance both on and off the field.
Prithvi Shaw reflects on past mistakes and aims for a fresh start.
"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life," Shaw confessed to News24. He elaborated on how he began dedicating less time to cricket, explaining, "I used to practice a lot... I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting... I admit that there was a distraction."
Shaw further revealed the influence of negative associations during his rise to prominence. "I made some wrong friends... Then they took me here and there... I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."
Shaw's career began spectacularly in 2018 with a century on his Test debut against the West Indies, leading to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, a lack of discipline and fitness eventually led to his decline in form and subsequent exclusion from the national team. This downturn included being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness concerns and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, Shaw is determined to revitalize his career. He has severed ties with the Mumbai Cricket Association and is seeking a fresh start with Maharashtra as a professional player. In his communication with the MCA, Shaw conveyed his appreciation for their support but emphasized the necessity of this transition for his personal and professional development. Despite occasional promising displays, such as his stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has struggled to maintain consistency.
With a new team, a reformed attitude, and a transparent acknowledgment of his previous errors, Prithvi Shaw is focused on rebuilding his career. Whether this signifies a true comeback or a gradual decline from elite cricket remains to be seen.
